I had to read it all from beginning to end.

Of Sorrow and Such was an entrancing read. Small towns tend to have secretive folk and as such the last thing any witch wants is to draw more attention than is necessary least she exposes herself. Each have a story, be it commonly known or not. Side characters are well developed and aren’t slotted in unnecessarily. Some are just as they appear, whilst others have secret sides to themselves. Each of these characters are different in their own right. The added factor that she isn’t astoundingly breathtaking or hideous is a nice aspect to this strong character.Īlthough Mistress Gideon is the main character of the story, there is an ensemble cast who are brought together by one unfortunate event. As much as I love reading books aboutt fledgling witches who are just finding their feet, the lives of the older ones tend to be more interesting. Finding a female witch character who is past her maidenhood, is a mother of sorts to her charge Gilly, and has the mind of a crone is wonderful to read. She looks younger than her years but that doesn’t fool anyone. She's not stunningly beautiful, but is middle aged and has a pleasing enough appearance. Mistress Gideon is a witch on the wrong side of 50. This town is the home of a witch that is left to her own devices because she has never caused harm to the inhabitants, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worried of her and her kind.
